Hello everyone! I have been researching how to get the name of the Dauphin Island Bridge change to The Four Angels Bridge. I have emailed Governor Riley at http://www.governor.state.al.us, Representative Spencer Collier at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and Senator Ben Brooks at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). I have also placed calls to their offices. In addition, I have started a petition at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/fourangelsbridge. Please take a moment to sign the petition and to email those who have the power to make the name change a reality.

NO, although, I think a memorial is a good idea after the children are found and placed to rest, but what about all the other innocent people who have died on the Dauphin Island bridge? i.e. killed by drunk drivers? in other words there are more than just these four angels who have lost their lives on this bridge.

Bobcat,

I realize there have been many people killed by drunk drivers on this and other bridges. I am in no way downplaying their memories or deaths. I did this because I saw that alot of people were posting the idea on the various threads. I just took the idea and started making the contacts. I don't know if anything will become of it or not, but at least those in the community who thought this would be a good way to memorialize the children, will know that we tried. smile

I know some people don't think the name should be changed, but i just wanted to add this to the discussion:

I don't think the changing of the bridge name would take away from the joy of Dauphin Island at all. I never knew that the bridge was ever named anything but the Dauphin Island bridge(as was reported on the news earlier). I think if the bridge were renamed, or even if a memorial plaque were placed on the bridge, it would honor the children. It would help us to remember them, not that I think anyone could forget. But in reality, I think the locals would continue to call it the Dauphin Island Bridge. This is just a way to memorialize the children and show our respects.

You need to get your bearings. The victims were all under five, have little family in the area and are all Buddhists. Who are we going to remind - their crazy father in prison? Forget this, let it go and do something worthwhile like naming something after the 58,000 men who died in Vietnam so they could come here to live.

I believe that is called the Vietnam War Veterans Memorial. But this is not about what nationality the children were, or the color of their skin, it is about remembering 4 innocent lives that were tragically taken. They are not Buddhist, they are Baptist.

We're jumping the gun on a petition to rename the bridge. As I see it, only two groups have a say in the matter - Kieu Phan and her family, and the residents of Dauphin Island. The rest of us ought to stay out of it, because as sad as we all are, it's none of our business. Let's allow the family and the islanders to make this very personal decision by themselves. Let's be Christians and not judge anyone here. I can't even imagine what the family is going through. Neither can I imagine what it would be like to be reminded of one of the worst murders in the state every single day I drove home from work. God bless the family.

I don't see why it should be an "Island" decision-this is a state bridge in the county of Mobile. Therefore, all Mobile County residents should have a say. If the bridge were a private bridge, put up and paid for by the citizens of Dauphin Island, then yes, it would be your vote only. I think the mom should have her wishes honored. And while this is a long way off, it takes planning and things such as the petitions and polls to get the ball rolling, long before anything can ever actually be done. I personally don't think that whether the bridge is named Four Angels Bridge or not, anyone will ever drive across it without looking out over the water and thinking of those 4 babies-so why not honor them by naming the bridge Four Angels Bridge? Many on the island have argued that this will take away from the island-I don't believe it will, the murder of these innocent babies took place on the bridge, not Bienville Blvd! I will still come to the island to enjoy the laid back atmosphere, and enjoy the beach and fishing!

I really find this entire "Bridge Renaming" subject to be offensive due to the fact that there is still a recovery in progress. There is plenty of time to argue this issue later. Very premature and disrespectful in my opinion. The focus seems to have turned from the actual loss of 4 children to a debate over the name of a bridge.

I am so glad that I don't share the same opinion as you.

Have you ever held a child? Have you ever played around with a kid who hung onto you for dear life when they thought they were going to fall out of your arms? Now imagine leaning over a bridge and plucking FOUR children from your own arms to throw them to their death.

I don't care WHO they were, how OLD they were, what RELIGION they were, or the SIZE of their family. The fact of the matter is that they were brutally murdered and it is disgusting that you think memorializing the babies and showing respect is not worthwhile because of who they were.

I DONT THINK IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA BECAUSE OF THE MEMORIES.. HOW ABOUT HANGING THE SICK O OFF THE SIDE OF THE BRIDGE AND LEAVE HIM THERE.. THEN NAME THE BRIDGE AFTER HIM.. (SICK O BRIDGE).. THESE 4 BABYS NEED TO BE REMEMBERED.. ITS JUST GOING TO BRING THE MEMORIES BACK AND IT SO SAD ITS GOING TO BE DEPRESSING TO DRIVE OVER THE BRIDGE......
